Moissanite stone cutting

Following is a brief pictorial on how moissanite stones are cut from the lab-grown rough moissanite crystals to the finished moissanite gemstone ready for use as a precious jewel, ready for mounting in most any type of jewelry.

STEP 1:
The large single crystals
are cut into "preforms"

STEP 2:
The preform is attached to
guidance tool, or a "dop"

STEP 3:
Using a grinding process,
the pavilion (lower portion)
of the stone is fromed.

 

girdle  
STEP 4:
The girdle (edge) of the
stone is cut & polished
pavilion facets  
STEP 5:
The pavilion facets are cut

STEP 6:
The pavilion facets are polished
crown  
STEP 7:
The stone is re-attached to the
dop with the top of the stone
exposed. The crown (upper side)
facets are cut.
